Position Summary
The Food Service Director oversees all aspects of the district’s school nutrition program for a small School Food Authority (SFA). This position ensures compliance with federal and state regulations while providing nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective meals for students and staff. The director manages daily operations, budgeting, procurement, menu planning, staff supervision, food safety, and reporting requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct and manage all district food service operations
- Ensure compliance with USDA, state, and local regulations
- Plan nutritious menus that meet federal meal pattern requirements
- Oversee food purchasing, inventory, and vendor relationships
- Prepare and manage department budgets and financial reports
- Complete required state and federal claims and reports
- Supervise, train, and evaluate kitchen and cafeteria staff
- Maintain sanitation, food safety, and HACCP procedures
- Monitor meal participation and implement program improvements
- Process free/reduced meal applications and determine eligibility
- Maintain accurate records for audits and reviews
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administration
- Promote positive customer service and student engagement
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior school nutrition or food service management experience preferred
- Knowledge of USDA school meal regulations and nutrition standards
- Experience with budgeting, purchasing, and staff supervision
- ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain certification
- Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills
- Ability to work independently in a small district environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Minnesota School Nutrition Association or SNS credential preferred
- Experience with small district/SFA operations
- Familiarity with state reporting systems and meal software
Salary and Benefits
- Salary range: [$65,000 – $75,000], depending on experience

Work Environment

- Requires standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and occasional travel between schools
